Colour printer growth
The colour printer market is the fastest growing segment in the printer industry and is being driven by falling prices, increasing speeds and a growing need for in-house colour printing, according to market research firm IDC.
IDC predicts a compound annual growth rate of 30 percent for sales of colour printers from 2003-8.
"The drop in prices of colour page printers and the availability of intuitive software has in many cases made it viable for companies to produce their own colour documents that they would have previously outsourced to a third-party printer," says Paul Withington, IDC UK research manager for printers and peripherals.
Quality management
Affordable colour office printers have developed to the point where you don't need to be an expert who understands colour reprographics to produce high-quality professional-looking output.
Printers that have a straight-through, single-pass colour process, similar to sheet-feed lithographic presses on which magazines are printed, have an inherent advantage in this area. It is also important that the printer you choose has built-in software that automatically maintains the quality of colour output.
